Global Talent Visa (Subclass 858)

The Global Talent Independent program (GTI Visa) was launched on 4 November 2019. This is a streamlined, priority visa pathway for highly skilled individuals who want to work and live permanently in Australia. The program is designed to strengthen Australia’s ability to compete for the world’s best and brightest skilled migrants and grow Australian businesses of the future. Additionally, eligible family members can be included in the application. To be able to submit a valid application for this visa you need to register your interest with the Department of Home Affairs and be invited to apply.

What are the requirements for the GTI visa program?

  • be invited to apply
  • be older than 18 and less than 55 years of age
  • be a highly skilled and internationally recognised professional in one of the target sectors;

    • Defense, Advanced Manufacturing and Space

    • Infrastructure and Tourism
    • Financial Services and FinTech
    • Education
  • be prominent in their field of expertise
  • provide evidence that you would be an asset to Australia, in your area of expertise
  • have a recognised organisation or individual in Australia nominated as global talent, in the same field as you
  • have the ability to earn the Fair Work High Income Threshold (currently $167,500) or be a recent PhD graduate
  • have the required English language skills
  • meet health and character requirements

How can you apply for the GTI visa program?

If you are invited to apply for the GTI visa, you will be given a unique Global Talent identifier to submit your online application for the Distinguished Talent Visa (Subclass 858).

How long does the GTI visa process take?

The Global Talent Independent program is a fast-track visa program hence processing times will be a lot faster than other general skilled visas. For current visa processing times please refer to the information on the Department of Home Affairs website.

What are the costs associated with applying for the GTI visa?

Our service packages are designed to give clients choice in terms of fees and the level of service. Our fees are fixed. However, they do not cover the visa application fees and other costs involved in submitting a visa application. We have outlined the fees that are most likely to be incurred in Australian Dollars. The fees quoted below are for general skilled visa applications (Subclass 189/190/491) visas. Fees can increase without notice, so the fees can vary at the time of application.

  • Department of Home Affairs (DHA) Visa Application fees – $ 4710 (for primary applicant), $2360 (for each secondary applicant over 18), $1180 (for each secondary applicant under 18)
  • IELTS or PTE Academic – IELTS $340 + $34 (GST if applicable) or PTE $340
  • Medical Examination fees – as applicable
  • Police Clearance Certificate: $ 20 per person (average)
  • Translations/Certifications – as applicable
  • Credit card processing fees for DHA – as applicable

You should allow at least AU$5,000 – AU$6,000 for a single applicant and at least AU$9,000 – AU$10,000 for a family of four (two adults and two children) excluding our fees.

What are the benefits of the GTI visa?

The GTI visa allows you and your dependents to:

  • live and work permanently in Australia
  • study in Australia
  • enroll in Medicare, Australia’s scheme for health-related care and expenses
  • access certain social security payments
  • travel in and out of Australia while the visa is valid
  • apply for Australian citizenship (subject to residency criteria)
  • sponsor family members for permanent residence
