What are the requirements for the 407 Visa?
Sponsorship
To sponsor someone for a 407 Visa, the business must first apply and be approved as a temporary activities sponsor. In order to obtain approval, the business must:

- have no relevant adverse information against the business, or it is reasonable to disregard this information
- agree to comply with sponsorship obligations throughout the life of its sponsorship
- obey Australian laws
- directly provide the occupational training, unless an exemption exists.
Nomination
You must be nominated by your sponsor to participate in an occupational training program unless your sponsor is an Australian Commonwealth Government agency. Nomination requirements differ depending on the purpose or type of training.
The nomination application must determine the:
- nomination eligibility type i.e. occupational trainee or professional development
- details of the proposed training programme and position to be filled
- skills, qualifications, and experience that is necessary for the position
- the person nominated to take part in training.
You can be nominated for the 407 Visa under three types of occupational training:
- Occupational training required for registration
This refers to workplace-based training that is required to get occupational registration, membership or licensing that is mandatory to work in your occupation in Australia or your home country.
- Occupational training to enhance skills in an eligible occupation
This stream is for applicants with recent qualifications and/or experience to undertake a structured workplace-based training program in an occupation that is specified on the relevant Skilled Occupations List.
- Occupational training that promotes capacity building overseas
This stream of occupational training is for applicants who wish to participate in a professional development training programme with face-to-face teaching in Australia; students who need to complete an internship to get their qualification and government-supported workplace trainees.
Government supported trainees can be nominated by a government agency in Australia or in the applicant’s home country at a national, state/territory or provincial level.
