Sponsored Temporary Parent Visa (Subclass 870)

Sponsorship application

To qualify as a sponsor for this visa:

• You must be an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident or an eligible New Zealand citizen who has resided in Australia for at least 4 years.
• You must be 18 years old or older.
• The prospective visa applicant must be your or your de-facto partner/spouse’s biological, adoptive or step-parents.
• You must pass the income test. To pass the income test, you must have a taxable income of at least $83,454.80 in the last financial year. You can combine your income with an eligible partner or sibling, with at least 50% of the taxable income amount specified above being attributed to you.
• You must have a clean immigration history that shows you have complied with any previous sponsorships. You should also agree to comply with sponsorship obligations for the prospective applicant.
• You must meet character requirements.
• You should not have any adverse information, including no criminal records, no Commonwealth debts, or public health debts.

Visa application

To qualify as a visa applicant for this visa:

• You must be over 18 years old and be the biological, legal or adoptive parent, step-parent or parent-in-law of the Parent Sponsor. You must be sponsored by an approved Parent Sponsor.
• You must have a genuine intention to stay in Australia temporarily.
• You must have never committed visa fraud.
• You must provide evidence of access to sufficient funds and access to Australian health insurance for the duration of their proposed stay in Australia.
• You cannot have any outstanding debt to the Australian government.
• You must satisfy health and character requirements.
