What are the requirements for the 417 Visa?

  • You must be a citizen of and hold a valid passport for one of the eligible countries/jurisdictions and be within the age limit at the time of application:

  • You should not have any dependent children accompanying you during your time in Australia.
  • You must have enough money to support yourself in Australia and leave Australia at the end of your stay.
  • You must meet health and character requirements. Your immigration history may be checked to see if you have had a visa cancelled or refused.

What are the requirements to apply for a second and third Working Holiday Visa (417 Visa)?

In addition to the above requirements you must:

  • have previously entered Australia on a subclass 417 Visa and complied with all the conditions.
  • if in Australia, you must hold a substantive visa or your last substantive visa has expired less than 28 days ago.
  • hold a passport from an eligible country/jurisdiction and meet the age requirements (see above).
  • have completed three months of specified subclass 417 work in regional Australia while on your first Working Holiday visa.
  • not be accompanied by dependent children.
  • apply as an individual; family members cannot be included in your application.

  • Department of Home Affairs visa application fee – $670
  • Credit card surcharge (if applicable)

What are the benefits of the 417 Visa?

You can, while on your 417 Visa:

  • stay in Australia for up to 12 months.
  • do short-term work in Australia to help pay for your holiday,
  • study for up to 4 months.
